Franklin set to become VP of One FC

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin has been out of action since suffering a gruesome knockout in his last match back in 2012 and has taken some time off the sport completely to look after his juice bar and café in Los Angeles.

Although he has often teased about making a return to the cage on occasion, there has been nothing concrete available from either the fighter or the UFC. And now, it seems his layoff will become permanent after it was revealed that Ace was in talks with One Fighting Championship, a fledgling Mixed Martial Arts promotion in Asia to become its new vice president.

Writing on his Facebook page, Franklin said that he has been in negotiations with One FC for some time over becoming their new vice president. He also wrote that he will be making the trip to headquarters of the promotion in the next few weeks to iron out the details of the deal. According to Franklin, he has met Dana White, the president of the UFC and other top officials and they have given him their blessings about the move.

Franklin is often seen as an ambassador for the UFC and given his long career, it is a great move for the former champion. One of the more classical fighters, Franklin dominated the Middleweight division of the promotion before the emergence of a certain Anderson Silva and becoming vice president of One FC will be the icing on the cake for one of the most stellar careers in the UFC.

Although he went off the boil later in his career, alternating wins and losses, he will always be remembered as a sincere fighter whose time at the top was cut short by an even bigger legend in the form of Silva.
